The Third Danang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF III - 2025)
The Third Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF III), co-organized by the Da Nang People's Committee and the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association, has returned on schedule after a year, affirming itself as the first and only film festival in Vietnam held annually, with the goal of increasingly professional development.
Compared to the previous two seasons, DANAFF III has developed quite comprehensively, both in scale, organization time and program content. From 05 days of official operation in the previous two seasons, DANAFF III increased the official time of the film festival to 07 days. The total number of films screened in DANAFF III increased to 100 compared to 63 films in DANAFF II; the number of film screenings increased to 200 compared to 100 in the previous season. But more importantly, the content of DANAFF this year is very rich. A new film program was opened, “Asian Cinema Panorama”, which selected excellent Asian cinema works that were successful at international film festivals in the past year, and screened together with films selected by DANAFF for their international or Asian premieres. Accordingly, in addition to the award categories that have been present in previous DANAFF seasons, such as the Award for Asian Films in Competition, Vietnamese Films in Competition, NETPAC Award for Vietnamese Films in Competition and Audience Award for films in the program “Vietnamese Cinema Today”, this year for the first time there will be the Critics Award for films in the program “Asian Cinema Panorama”.
Two key programs that will certainly attract the attention of delegates, guests and audiences are the selection of 23 films in “Half a century of Vietnamese films about war” and the selection of films in “Spotlight on Korean cinema”. The first selection will be a colorful and profound picture of the war to protect national independence and unify the country, recreated by Vietnamese filmmakers over 50 years of peace, from the Great Spring Victory in 1975 to the present. The second selection is classic and excellent Korean cinema works by some big names over the past half century, which have contributed to the miracle of Asian cinema conquering the world! Along with the film screening, there are two international seminars “Imprints of Vietnam’s war films since the country’s reunification” and “Korean cinema – Lessons in developing the film industry and bringing films to the world”, closely following the theme of the two film selections so that experts, delegates and guests have the opportunity to exchange more thoroughly and comprehensively.
A new but equally important area of DANAFF III is the “DANAFF’s Talent” initiative with the successful “Talent Incubation” training workshop from the previous two editions and the newly opened “Project Incubator” this edition, including the Asian Art Film Project Market and the Vietnamese Film Genre Project Market. Our goal is to discover, nurture and create opportunities for Asian and Vietnamese talents to realize their “films on paper”, helping them to firmly step into the path of cinema.
