Wild Field
Synopsis
The main setting of the film is the Dong Thap Muoi region during the days of the struggle to liberate South Vietnam. Ba Do and his wife and their young child live in a small hut in the middle of a stream. They were assigned by the Vietnamese Revolution to maintain the communication line for the army.
The film focuses on the couple's daily life such as growing rice, raising children, catching pythons, and fishing, but interspersed with scenes of fighting and hiding from US military helicopters circling the rice fields to detect guerrilla activity.
Director's biography
People's Artist Nguyen Hong Sen (1933 - 1995) was a famous film director with war films. He held the position of Deputy Secretary General of the Vietnam Cinema Association, Director of the Feature Film Studio of Ho Chi Minh City General Film Enterprise and a delegate of the 7th National Assembly of Vietnam. He was awarded the title of People's Artist by the Vietnamese government in 1984 and posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts in 1996.
His first work was the film The Season of the Chuong Wind, which showed Hong Sen's inclination to describe the inner feelings of characters when making films about the country and people during the war. With Canh Dong Hoang, Hong Sen's directing talent was widely known domestically and internationally.
