Hanoi, 12 Days and Nights
Synopsis
Hanoi, 12 Days and Nights depicts the intense 12-day air campaign carried out by U.S. B-52 bombers over Hanoi and neighboring provinces during Operation Linebacker II (December 18–30, 1972). Set against the backdrop of brutal warfare, the film follows a group of individuals journalist Ngân Hà, doctor Thủy Tiên, commander Nguyễn Thắng, and the couple Đặng Nhân – Hiền, whose friendship, love, and sacrifices highlight the resilience and courage of the Vietnamese people. Though the war ends with the signing of the Paris Peace Accords, the emotional scars of loss remain long after.
Director's biography
People’s Artist Bùi Đình Hạc (1934–2023) was born in Phú Thọ Province. He studied filmmaking in the former Soviet Union before joining the Vietnamese film industry during the resistance war against the French. He is regarded as one of the pioneering directors of Vietnam's revolutionary cinema, with notable narrative works such as Nguyễn Văn Trỗi (1966), Đường về quê mẹ (1971), Hoa thiên lý (1973), and Hanoi, 12 Days and Nights (2002). Aside from his feature films, Bùi Đình Hạc was also a celebrated documentary filmmaker, known for influential works such as Anh Nguyễn Văn Trỗi sống mãi, Hồ Chí Minh – Chân dung một con người, Nguyễn Ái Quốc đến với Lênin, and Nước về Bắc Hưng Hải, etc.
