Synopsis
Set in a harsh, postwar coastal village in Central Vietnam, the film follows the story of Luy, portrayed by actor Trần Vịnh. Upon returning from the war, Luy is appointed as the commune’s Party Secretary. However, he is confronted with a deep personal dilemma: during his absence, his wife has remarried Sơn, a former soldier of the Republic of Vietnam. As Luy attempts to fulfill his political responsibilities, he must also navigate the emotional complexities of his fractured family - struggling to reconcile duty and forgiveness, identity and loss, in the shadow of war’s aftermath.
Director's biography
People’s Artist Huy Thành (1928–2018) was a prominent Vietnamese screenwriter and film director, who formerly served as Vice President of the Vietnam Cinema Association and Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Cinema Association. Widely regarded as one of Vietnam’s most accomplished revolutionary filmmakers, he was awarded the prestigious title of People’s Artist in 1993 and the State Prize for Literature and the Arts in 2007. Notably, he received three Golden Lotus Awards for his films Nổi gió (1970), Về nơi gió cát (1983), and Xa và gần (1985). He was recognized for his excellence in both film directing and screenwriting.
