PAINTED FIRE
Synopsis
In the 1850s, during a period of political and social instability in Korea, Kim Byeong-Mun (Ahn Sung-Ki) saves a young boy named Jang Seung-eop (later played by Choi Min-Sik) from being beaten by a group of drifters. In gratitude, Jang Seung-eop paints a picture for him. Kim Byeong-Mun sees the boy's picture and realizes that Jang Seung-eop has immense potential as a painter. Years later, Kim Byeong-Mun encourages Jang Seung-eop to pursue the arts and gives him the pen name Oh-Won. Jang Seung-eop then meets Mae-hyang (Yoo Ho-Jeong), the daughter of nobility. The two develop a passionate love for each other, but Mae-hyang must flee to escape persecution from those who oppose Christianity. Jang Seung-eop continues to wander in search of his artistic path. He realizes that only when immersed in wine and pleasure does he truly feel alive - and only then can he create great works of art...
