Synopsis

The film is a passionate love ballad between Mongryong (Cho Seung-woo), a nobleman’s son, and Chunhyang, the beautiful daughter of a kisaeng (a female entertainer akin to a geisha). Though divided by class, the two pledge eternal love. Later, Mongryong is forced by his father to leave his lover behind, promising to return one day as a government official. In Namwon, the cruel governor Byun Hakdo (Lee Jeong-heon) becomes obsessed with Chunhyang and tortures her when she refuses his advances. In despair, Chunhyang endures with strength and dignity. When Mongryong returns as a royal emissary, he disguises himself as a beggar and arrives in Namwon with a burning heart - determined to rescue Chunhyang and reclaim justice.
