Synopsis

The film centers on three main characters - traveling pansori singers in 1950s Korea, a period when many aspects of Korean culture were undergoing influence from Japan and the West. The story unfolds through a series of flashbacks. A man named Dong-ho (Kim Gyu-cheol) wanders through remote countryside, ostensibly searching for rare medicinal herbs for his employer in Seoul, but in truth, he is looking for Song-hwa (Oh Jung-hae), the woman he grew up with. Orphaned as children, the two were raised and trained in the art of pansori by Yu-bong (Kim Myeong-gon), a strict master who demanded they sacrifice everything for their craft. Dong-ho rebelled and ran away, eventually becoming the man he is now. Song-hwa remained, lost her sight, and outlived Yu-bong. Rumor has it that she is still wandering - and still singing pansori.
