Director's biography

Tan Hoang Thong is a film director from Ho Chi Minh City, known for his distinctive style that blends poetic imagery with the haunting textures of Vietnamese folklore. From his early screenwriting mentorship at DreamWorks SKG to his intensive filmmaking studies at the Busan Asian Film School in South Korea, Thong has consistently pursued his passion for visual storytelling. His short film Melancholy (2018) marked a turning point, selected for screening at Autumn Meeting and the Busan International Short Film Festival. Following that, his feature project A Good Bad Luck earned him a spot in the Top 5 at Autumn Meeting 2019. He is currently preparing to release his debut feature The Silent Game (2025) - a folk horror film rooted in Vietnamese tradition, exploring trauma and vengeance through the eerie lens of a childhood game. For Thong, cinema is a way to illuminate the deepest, darkest corners of the human soul - where even the faintest light can spark something miraculous.
